Autograph letter signed : [n.p.], to [Dmitri Ivanovitch] Dolgorouki, [1829?] Jan. 22.

Saying "The anecdote you give me of the Duke of Veraguas and his pension arrived just as I was correcting the last page of the abridgement of my Life of Columbus. I inserted it in a note to close the volume"; and asking him how much gold is procured annually from Russian mines. He looks forward to Dolgorouki's arrival in London, where he will have "so much to see, and to philosophize upon," and where he will have the opportunity to view the annual exhibition of the Royal Academy, "and be able to judge of the present state of painting in England"; and looking forward to "some interesting discussions with the sage Wilkie" and a visit to his studio.
